“March Madness” has more than lived up to its name this year. The annual round up of the 64 best teams is the most highly anticipated college sports event every year. Each and every year fans that bet on March Madness with office pool or traditional sports books do their very best to predict which teams in the field of 64 will provide an upset.

Some of the most memorable moments are not always the Championship game. A lot of people remember fondly the great upsets in history such as when lowly Cleveland State upset the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in in 2009 or when the 10th seed Gonzaga Bulldogs pulled off two consecutive upsets over Louisville and St. Johns in their amazing run to national attention in 2000.

Speaking of Gonzaga, the Zags were on the other side of a tournament upset in 2013 when they were given their first ever #1 seed in the tourney. They dominated the West Coast Conference this year and were one of the favorites to continue on to the Final Four in Atlanta. This was not meant to be, because Kelly Olynyk and his talented teammates ran into the surprising Wichita State Shockers and were upset 76-70. The small budget Wichita State team seemed aptly nicknamed when they kept the surprises coming this year with wins over La Salle and another impressive upset over Ohio State.

You may not have recognized La Salle as a typical third round game, but the La Salle Explorers played their own underdog story out in the tournament by winning three games over more highly ranked Boise State, Kansas State, and Mississippi.

Harvard won the Ivy League Championship which was a surprise to no one and hardly an upset. The team led by Wesley Saunders and Laurent Rivard were expected to do well in the Ivy League and on their school exams but no one expected them to knock off the number three seeded New Mexico squad.

Perhaps the most exciting Cinderella that suited up in this year’s Big Dance was the small and unknown team from Florida Gulf Coast University. The school was previously best known as the college Alma Mata of baseball pitchers Chris Sale and Don Carman. It’s now known for one of the biggest upsets in NCAA history when they beat the number two seeded Georgetown Hoyas and kept the run going with a big victory over number seven seed San Diego.

Anyone that bet on March Madness this year would have needed a crystal ball to have predicted all of these games correctly, but probably had a great time watching it happen.

March is the time of the year for flowers to bloom and time for the warm air to blow away winter’s chill. March is also time for March Madness, a college basketball tournament that is very popular and well covered by the media. These teams are ranked according to several factors. Some of the favorites this year include Indiana, Duke, Florida, Louisville, Michigan, Georgetown and Kansas State. These teams along with many others will play with each other in a series of rounds. Eventually, the competition will be down to the final 16 teams and then to the Final Four. The champion will be decided after all these competitors play their prospective rounds. The last one standing will be the 2013 champ.

March Madness is known for its great basketball games and rivalries between universities. It allows many students to get the bragging rights that they are alumni of the winning school. It is also a common tournament for betting. Many people bet on March Madness by setting up their brackets. Once one of the teams you have chosen moves on, the odds are getting better for the better. March Madness betting odds are based upon standings, previous tournament results, players and game location. When a person is ready to bet, they just check the odds and lines on their favorite teams. If those teams move on to the next round, you have won the bet. There are many different types of bets. Bets can be made on single games, the tournament winner and other varieties as well. Future bets are also available. This means you pick your winner very early in the competition. This is a lot more risky but it pays off much better too.

Whether college basketball is a favorite hobby or not, March Madness will infiltrate most major channels on the television for the next few weeks. Past winners have included Duke, UNLV and Kansas. This year, it might be a new champion.

UFC 154 marks the return of welterweight titleholder Georges St. Pierre, one of the most dominant champions in the organization’s history. He is scheduled to face off against Carlos Condit, the interim champion. Both fighters are very well-rounded and have the ability to finish fights from any phase of the game, so this should be a lively and competitive affair.

Also scheduled to do battle are welterweight contenders Martin Kampmann and Johnny Hendricks. It is possible that the winner of this fight will receive the opportunity to fight for the title in their next fight. Kampmann and Hendricks used to be training partners, which should lead to the fight becoming very interesting in terms of the strategy and tactics that they use. Both are also known for being heavy-handed, so this fight could also end in a quick one-punch knockout, like Hendricks’ last win over perennial contender John Fitch. There will likely be much online betting (click here) at Top Bet on the fight.

This UFC 154 Preview would not be complete without mentioning the rest of the fight card, which features a number of Canadian fighters, including Mark Hominick and Patrick Cote. The event will take place in Montreal, home of Georges St. Pierre, so the Canadian fighters can expect a rousing welcome and fans can expect to see all of the fighters do their best to give the crowd an exciting show.

While the main card fights are getting most of the attention, it is an undercard fight that may prove to be the most interesting. Lightweights Mark Bocek and Rafael Dos Anjos are set to square off in a battle that may set the winner up as a contender. Both are riding two-fight win streaks and both are extremely well-rounded fighters, so the action should be fast-paced and non-stop.

Any UFC 154 Preview would be incomplete without predictions, so here goes. Look for St. Pierre and Hendricks to both earn decision victories via the strength of their wrestling and dominant top games. Look for Bocek and Dos Anjos to earn the “Fight of the Night” award after a tough back-and-forth affair that leaves both men bloody and exhausted.

If you would like to place your first bet on an online sports betting site or a “sportsbook” you will be overwhelmed with the number of sites available to do so. Once the best site is located then you will be inundated with all of the different terms you must figure out before even starting to make your first wager. The good thing about online sports betting is that the terms are not hard to learn, are easy to remember and are less intimidating the more you learn and the more you make wagers.

Online sports betting has become very popular over the past decade, but is very new compared to overall sports betting, which has been taking place for centuries. Today, online sports betting is available on sites that include jai alai to horseracing and baseball to golf.

The sites on the internet that offer online sports betting have accounts you can open send in your money via a credit card, debit card or a bank transfer. The most important things to determine before joining one of the many sites for sports betting online are whether the site is legitimate and safe.

Online betting has become popular worldwide and because it has, it has attracted the scammers and others who just want to take your money. Beware and be careful in choosing the correct site.

Sports betting has many different options available to the bettor. The bettor can wager on what team will win or how many points will be scored. The score can be per quarter, half or the total for the end of the game. Point spreads are involved and can be used to choose a winner or bets can be made for the winner without using a point spread.

Important terms to learn to be successful in online sports betting are plentiful, but some of the most important are straight wager, point spread wager, over/under, parlays, pleaser, teaser, futures, SU and ATS.

Once these terms are understood then the world of online sports betting becomes even bigger and better. Bets can be placed on multiple games, on live betting and futures betting like choosing the winner of the Super Bowl in 2013.

Sir Alex Ferguson has announced he has no plans of retiring.

Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 (Photo by: The Sport Review)

Sir Alex Ferguson has announced he has no plans to retire despite having turned 70 years old on 31 December 2011.

“Retirement is for young people, not older people,” the septuagenarian said. “Young people can do something else. … If I get off the treadmill, where do you think I’m going? Down there.

“Trust me: when you get older, don’t retire,” he added.

The Manchester United manager, who has been in the club for 25 years, admits he has mellowed because the people he is dealing with today are more fragile than those of the previous decades.

“They are cocooned by modern ideas, modern parents, modern agents, and they are cocooned by their own image at times,” he said.

He also said that in the last ten years, he has learned to delegate. “In the early days, I was involved with scouting, coaching, youth – everything.

“You can’t do that for a long period of time.”

These days, due to his reduced workload, Ferguson is earning far less than his players. Nonetheless, he is firm in the knowledge of who’s the number one man in the team.

“The most important person at Manchester United is the manager,” he told the New York Times in an interview. “The minute a footballer becomes more important than the manager, your club is dead.”

As for the Glazer family, who had taken over United, he reported, “They never bother me … I am in a privileged position.”
